During our Cross Country road trip last year, we stopped in The Grand Canyon in late September for two wonderful, albeit cold, nights in the North Rim campground. Going mid-week is really the best way to see the Grand Canyon and we had no trouble driving up and getting a campsite. We hiked the less traveled South Kaibab trail for about 4-5 hours.
